About the procedure of entry to the Russian Federation

The entry to the Russian Federation is possible with a visa for valid documents proving the identity & recognized by the Russian Federation. 

Receiving a tourist visa is the easiest process of all. This visa type is suitable both for individual & invited through travel companies’ travelers, and people who just want to meet friends or colleagues in Russia.

The process of visa obtaining is identical for any country in the world: contact the Russian Consulate of the country in which you reside or use the VFS Global services. There is the following exception for citizens of certain countries: while not in the native country, there remains the possibility of obtaining a visa in the States in which you are literally. 

In Russia without a visa: who is allowed?

List of CIS countries with a visa-free regime up to 90 days:

About e-visa to Russia

The new experimental format of a visa called "electronic" was put into operation for those countries that are not included in the visa-free regime. 

Today, e-visa allows you to visit only in Saint-Petersburg, Leningrad region, Kaliningrad and Vladivostok. According to the law, the visa is valid from 1 to 8 days and can be single. Visa extension is denied. The deadline for receipt is from 1 to 4 calendar days, and the period of validity of the visa runs out after 8 days from the date of entry into the country.

The review process takes from 1 to 4 calendar days, after which receiving notification about the result. 

A transit visa to Russia

A transit visa to Russia is valid for foreigners traveling through Russia to other countries. If there is no visa between your country and Russia obtaining a transit visa is necessary. But for processing a transit visa an invitation to Russia is not required. 

Visa extension is possible in case of serious illness, a vehicle breakdown and need repair, natural disasters, and other unforeseen situations. It is necessary to address in bodies of executive power in the sphere of Internal Affairs, which is the place of this forced stop. 

A transit visa may be single-or multiple-entry. Its validity is limited to 10 days. 

* Note: for citizens of Belarus and Kazakhstan transit visa is not required.
