The walls had a semicircular shape with a total length of 3 km with an open side to the sea, up to 8 m high, 1.5 m thick reached a width of five meters, were trimmed with shell. From the sea, the fortress protected a five-meter moat filled with seawater. So unexpectedly, a small settlement of fishermen to the East of Kerkinitida became a full-fledged fortified city with a port capacity of 200 units, which by the seventeenth century was one of the largest ports of the Peninsula, where commercial ships from all cities of the Mediterranean arrived. In 1552 Juma-Jami (Khan-Jami) was erected on the model of the Sofia mosque in Constantinople, which according to some sources was originally referred to the Christian faith.
